Just wanted to stop in and get your opinion on my latest cover design posted to my blog...
I would love your input.

I'd also like to sell at least one ebook and maybe t-shirts. You know--to make some money on the side while I market the book.
Thanks for expressing an interest and asking a very good question. Sometimes I don't realize how deeply involved I am in technology and forget that many terms aren't commonplace. Shame on me!
Let's start with a few examples:
If you go to this page you'll see some versions of a widget that I built for an author (make sure you click on the book cover to see the real benefit!)
http://www.adaptiveblue.com/demo/Authors/SuzanneLieurance.html
Think of a widget as a small gadget that can be "installed" onto a webpage. Visitors to the web page can interact with the widget in a dynamic way AND "grab" the widget to share it on their site.
For example, the author in the above example has installed one of the widgets onto her web page. You can see it here:
http://writingforchildrencenter.com/
(check out the right-hand side of the web page to see the widget)
There are a few things that individuals can do with our widgets:
* they can grab them and install them onto their own personal site, helping to market the books
* they can click on the book cover to explore it
* it provides the ability to buy it on a number of online stores
* they can save the book to a number of sites on the web
and more!
Hope that helps, let me know if anything is still confusing!
