Member of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska. Raised in Montana. Besides my Indian blood and traditions, my ancestors came to America in the 1600s and 1700s, so my family is Old American as we call it. I practice some of the old American folkways.
I attended IAIA in Santa Fe (an American Indian art school), and got a BA in Anthropology and Native American Studies from U of Montana. I got Masters' in Anthropology and Landscape Architecture (Landscape History) from Iowa State U. I am an artist and writer and an adjunct teacher in environmental studies, art, and archaeology at UM-Helena.
My favorite stories are Grimm's, Aesop's, and Native American. Currently learning more traditional American folktales. I also really like geographic tales, tales of particular sites. I can't play an instrument but like to sing old folk songs I was raised with, though kinda off-key ;-) My main storytelling venue right now is a ghost walk I do in my hometown of Helena, Montana where I returned to live, walking people around and telling them stories about the places while we are in the place itself.
I am going to be doing some storytelling in Iowa this fall, in association with my first solo book "The Indians of Iowa."
